SHARPS MOVIE RIFLE. Cal 40. SN 682. Used in the movie “The Missouri Breaks” starring Marlon Brando and Jack Nicholson. 1874 Sharps rifle with 29-3/8” oct bbl, open sights, checkered straight stock with carbine style steel buttplate and uncheckered forearm with pewter tip and pewter inlays. This appears to be a converted carbine with the sling bar removed and the oval recess in the wrist plugged. The buttstock has numerous tack holes. Accompanied by a copy of the original screenplay by Thomas McGuane dated 6/20/75. Also accompanied by a certificate of authenticity dated 1999 stating that this rifle had been the property of Stembridge Gun Rentals of Glendale, CA. and was used by Marlon Brando in the movie. It also states that the rifle was used in 1981 in the production of “Heaven’s Gate” and that someone stole the silver scroll appliqué that had been tacked to the buttstock. Also accompanied by copies of newspaper clippings dated 1975. CONDITION: Fair to good, cleaned and artificially aged, worn refinished wood with a crack in the forearm and chipped nosecap with chips and slivers missing around the lockplate and a crack below the lockplate. Original SN is obliterated with current number hand-stamped. Battered screws. Sight elevator missing. Dark worn bore. 4-50945 JR4 (2,500-5,000)
