*FINE 1917 DATED ARTILLERY LUGER WITH HOLSTER AND STOCK. Cal. 9mm. SN 5324g. Usual configuration. Blue finish, 7-7/8″ bbl, barleycorn front sight with fine tune matching numbered 800 meter adjustable rear sight. It has full checkered walnut grips and accompanied by an unnumbered slab stock with holster attached that has a pigskin pebble grain body. The side of the stock has an inscription pressed in to surface of the wood which states “From Major C.H. Rice / U.S.M.A. Class of 1907 Accepted Oct. 19, 1920” with no indication as to what the presentation was for. Also accompanying is a copy of Major Rice’s military record from 1903 at the U.S. Military Academy through his disability retirement as a Col. in 1944. He died 4 Jan 63 at Fort Sam Houston, TX. On March 10, 1918, during WWI Major Rice was the acting Chief of Staff to the 4th Army Division. CONDITION: Extremely fine, near new, all matching except the magazine which is numbered to another pistol and the grips which are not numbered. Pistol retains 97-98% overall strong bright orig finish with only minor sharp edge wear and a little high point wear on the side plate. Ejector & magazine release retain virtually all of their strong orig straw color. Safety, trigger & lock bolt retain 50-60% straw color each. Mechanics are crisp. Brilliant shiny bore. Stock has numerous small nicks & scratches on the exposed side while the side next to the holster is clean & clear. Holster body & flap are strong & clean with a few minor nicks and retains a polished cordovan color. Holster tab & bottom straps are crackled & worn. Magazine body is gray metal color, base is fine. Altogether an outstanding rig with good WWI history, hard to improve upon. 4-58150 JR328 (3,500-5,500)
