WW GREENER FIELDS PATENT BREECH LOADING RIFLE. Cal 303 British. SN L2348. Classified as the model “Military Breech Loader Target Rifle”. This fine rifle has a 32-3/4” tapered rnd bbl with short ramp front sight and 1400 meter ladder musket sight. The top of the bbl is marked with the makers name and address and the left side “38 GRS RIFLEITE” and small British proof with the company elephant logo over the chamber. The receiver is flat sided with forward opening thumb lever that cocks the hammer on opening. It has a beautifully straight grained walnut stock and forearm with sling swivels and is 14-1/4” over a smooth steel buttplate. The top of the wrist is mounted with a wooden sight base, missing the sight. The right side of the upper bbl band has a saber bayonet lug and there is a tiny little wiping rod and channel on the bottom of the forestock. It is accompanied by a very old oil cloth tag identifying this rifle as having been in case 18 of the Greener collection. CONDITION: Extremely fine, as expertly restored, probably at the factory, it retains virtually all of this finish. Brilliant shiny bore. 4-50254 JR206 (5,000-9,000)
