SCARCE COLT MODEL 1911A1 TRANSITION SEMI AUTO PISTOL. Cal. 45ACP. SN 712115. All blue finish with full checkered brown plastic grips with large donuts around the screws. The slide is matching numbered to the frame. The slide is marked “Model of 1911. U.S. Army” on the right side, with full markings & patent dates on the left. The frame has Colt proofs on left web of trigger guard & a simple P proof above the magazine release on left side. Right side is marked “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” over the SN. There is a tiny “38” on right web of trigger guard. Bbl is military blued and probably the orig bbl marked on lower left side “COLT 45 AUTO” & a “P” on left side of lug. Bottom of bbl has proofs “ING”. No other areas were observed to be marked. CONDITION: Slide retains 90-92% orig blue with front edge & sharp edge wear & some chemical spots on the left side. Frame retains strong bright orig blue on sides with a gray front strap and spring housing. Safeties & slide release retain most their orig blue. Mechanics are fine. Bright shiny bore. This is a rare pre-war 1911 A1 seldom encountered. Fine condition as most of them were issued and saw extensive combat service. 4-56583 JR504 (3,500-4,000)
