RARE CIVILIAN WINCHESTER LEE NAVY STRAIGHT PULL BOLT ACTION MUSKET. Cal. 6.5 Lee Navy. SN. 13610. Standard musket with 28″ slim tapered rnd bbl with military sights, short upper hand guard that is from another type of rifle & a front band with stacking swivel & bayonet lug. The military style ladder rear sight is graduated to 2000 yards. The receiver ring has only the SN with no navy markings or cartouches & it has musket patent information on the left side of receiver. It is mounted in a 1-pc walnut stock with nicely figured butt & smooth musket buttplate with trap. It has a sling loop on the middle band & correspondingly on the buttstock with a replacement, probably Winchester, sling swivel. It also has the musket bolt with a single gas hole. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this rifle as having been shipped July 13, 1898. CONDITION: Bbl retains 92-93% orig blue with a few scattered spots of pitting & some thinning just in front of the hand guard. Receiver & cartridge box retain about 85% thin orig blue. Wood is sound with minor storage and handling marks, with the aforementioned replaced hand guard, retains most of its orig oil finish.
