RARE DELUXE WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 LEVER ACTION RIFLE.

RARE DELUXE WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 32 WCF (32-20). SN 121130. Rare case colored, deluxe 32-20 with 24-1/4” oct bbl, full magazine, half nickel front sight & semi-buckhorn rear sight. Bottom of receiver has a tiny rectangular stamp with initials “JPE”. Mounted with spectacular 3X burl & flame grain, center crotch cut, checkered American walnut with H-style checkered forearm & pistol grip stock with black insert, serpentine grip and crescent buttplate without trap, although the stock is cut for a trap underneath. Left side of lower tang is stamped with assembly number “4729”, “XXX”, the number “32” and an “R”. Top tang channel of buttstock and inside toe of buttplate also have assembly number. In addition top tang channel also has the number “3” stamped in two locations. Receiver & sideplates are case colored and it has single set trigger. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter fully identifying this rifle with case hardening & set trigger, shipped April 5, 1883. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbl & magazine tube retain 96-97% strong orig blue with some slight sharp edge wear and a few scattered freckles of very fine surface rust. Receiver retains virtually all of its orig case colors, brilliant on sides, slightly faded on sideplates and top & bottom. Lever retains 50-60% case colors, bright on sides. Hammer retains about 95% slightly faded case colors and buttplate retains 30-40% faded case colors with balance turned silver. Stock has a hairline by top tang through the screw hole, otherwise wood is sound with light handling & use marks and retains about all of its piano varnish finish. There is some dulling of forearm finish at receiver. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore. 4-30623 JR278 (60,000-100,000)
