*THE RAREST OF ALL TRENCH GUN MODELS, THE ITHACA MODEL 37. SN 60974. Cal. 12 ga. 20″ bbl with 6-row heat shield with bayonet lug. Left side of bbl at chamber marked “ITHACA GUN CO. INC. ITHACA, N.Y.-PATENT NO. 1849982 MODEL-37/12 GA.-2-3/4″ CHAMBER”. Lower left side adjacent receiver is a “P” aligned with “ORDINANCE BOMB” & “R.L.B.” on receiver for inspector “Roy L. Bowlin”. Front right side of receiver is stamped with SN, as well as matching number on bottom of bbl. No other markings are found. Mounted with straight grain walnut, pistol grip, hard rubber serrated buttplate, inlet base with swivel 3″ from toe, carrying an OD green canvas sling. Stock is un-numbered factory replacement, 16-ring corn cob forend. The total production of WWII Model 37 trench guns is reported to be 1,422, and fall in the SN range of 57820 to 61450. CONDITION: Very good. Heat shield retains most of its orig blue and is missing the bead sight. Exposed bbl shows thinning orig blue with some very fine flaked spots of surface oxidation. Receiver and mag tube show orig blue with considerable flaked finish from shallow surface oxidation mostly in forward portion and bottom of receiver. The factory replacement stock is sound with some normal nicks & dings, and retains orig oil finish. Forend is sound with normal nicks, dings & some tiny chips and retains an oil finish with hand worn patina. Mechanics are crisp with a shiny bore with a couple shallow scattered pits. 4-39177 BDT159 (10,000-12,500)
