FEDERICO/FILIPPO BARTOLINI (Italian, 1861-1908) THE RUG MERCHANT. Outstanding watercolor Orientalist scene shows a man in colorful costume bargaining with a merchant who is seated next to one of the shop keepers displaying a colorful striped fabric. A Persian Oriental rug rests on a colorful taberet stand. Beyond the merchant is a busy street scene with other merchants and perspective buyers against a series of stucco buildings. All under blue sky. Signed bottom right. Housed in what appears to be its original shell decorated frame with inner liner that is bright gold which indicates this was probably under glass for some time. A fine example of this artist’s Orientalist work. SIZE: Sight: 14-1/4″ x 21-1/4″. PROVENANCE: O’Brien Porter Family of No. Woodstock, CT to our consignor.
