IMPORTANT RENAISSANCE REVIVAL GOTHIC BURL WALNUT BRACKET CLOCK, BLACKIE, STRAND, LONDON. Mid-19th century. Of architectural form, the case headed by three carved Gothic spire finials, centering the peaked crenelated cornice above the burl walnut frieze, above the arched door carved with scrolling leaftips, opening to a silvered dial centering the maker’s name within a Roman numeral chapter ring, surmounted by a cadence dial. The brass movement fitted with eight bells, the plate additionally signed, having a three-train fusee movement with cable and chain. The face flanked by engaged cluster columns on stepped canted plinths, continuing to a molded stepped base. A nearly identical clock was sold at James D. Julia Auctions, August 28-30, 2007, Lot #874. SIZE: 37″ h. x 18″ w. x 11″ overall d. PROVENANCE: From a fine Downeast Maine collection. CONDITION: Extremely fine, professionally refinished and restored condition.
