SCARCE LEE METFORD BOLT ACTION PRIZE RIFLE. Cal 303 British. SN 10839. Fine complete Lee Metford with 30” bbl, ramp front sight and 1800 meter ladder rear sight. It retains its original cutoff and is fitted with grenade launcher fixture on the left side of the forestock and the peep sight mounted to the left rear of the receiver and has an original sling. The belly of the stock has been inletted with a 1-3/8” oval plaque engraved: “1ST L.R.V. Officers Competition/1897/1ST Prize/Won By/Lieut.J.Ross/C Compy”. It has a brass buttplate with trap and an original 10 round magazine. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl retains 40-50% original blue with the balance a dark patina and moderate pitting. Receiver is a brown patina while the dust cover retains about 90% original blue with light rust. Stock and full-length forearm are sound and retain about 90% original varnish. Short upper handguard has several grain checks and retains about 95% varnish. Strong bright bore dark in the grooves. 4-50533 JR125 (1,750-2,750)
