*RARE SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1903 T-SERIES BOLT ACTION TARGET RIFLE. SN 1314451. Cal. 30-06. Spectacular and rare 1903 rifle with 30 inch tapered heavy bbl that has BAR style front sight base with a globe front sight, no provision for a rear sight, and mounted with a Lymon 48-C receiver sight with target knobs. Top of the bbl and front receiver ring are armory drilled and tapped and mounted with target scope blocks. Mounted in a nicely figured, uncheckered walnut half stock with two reinforcing bolts, secured with a contoured flat band which is a modified Model 1917 lower band, that has a sling loop and a corresponding sling loop in the buttstock. Buttplate is curved, checkered steel Springfield target buttplate. Bolt body, extractor and handle are polished bright, with headless striker and a conventional safety. Cutoff has the “on” side polished bright. It has standard milled 1903 trigger guard and floor plate. Bottom of the bbl, under the wood is stamped with the Star Gauge number “1199”. Accompanied by a Springfield research service letter identifying this rifle as a “style T” that was sold to “Oswald D. Lewis of East Windsor, CT. on March 27, 1931”. Also accompanied by a photo opy of the original record card. According to The Springfield 1903 Rifles , Brophy, these rifles were only produced from 1929 to 1932 in three bbl lengths, although parts were available as late as 1940. The last recorded sale of a T-Series rifle was March of 1935. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbl and receiver retain most of their strong original armory blue with a couple of minor nicks and scratches and slight wear on the front sight band. Bolt body, extractor and handle retain most of their original bright polish. Trigger guard and floor plate retain most of their bright original armory blue with slight thinning on the front edge of the floor plate. Stock is sound with a few, scattered, very light handling and storage nicks and scratches and retains virtually of its original oil finish.
