**JAPANESE TYPE 89 50MM MORTAR (DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE)(C&R). SN 81317. Cal. 50mm mortar. 9” tube. Manufactured by Japanese Government Arsenal during WWII, year of manufacture unknown. Missing mainspring, tension adjusting handle knob. Detent that detached tube from bore is stuck. Item will display well, though is currently unserviceable due to missing mainspring. PROVENANCE: A. William Vallerand Collection. CONDITION: Overall shows significant amount of corrosion on base plate and main part of tube where mortar would be held. Tube has an enamel finish that is about 70%, with much less of that black enamel remaining on the shaft of the base. Tension adjustment screw is showing shiny and bright and in good condition. Inner tube has good, crisp, brown rifling with some corrosion and pitting. Overall should display well. 4-39868 JWK200 (500-1,000)
