WINCHESTER MODEL 1890 CASE COLORED PUMP ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 22 Short. SN 60403. Standard grade rifle, 2nd model with 24-3/8″ oct bbl, 3/4 magazine, standard front sight and sheet metal orig rear sight. It has very nicely figured American walnut wood with tiny ribbed forearm & straight stock with crescent buttplate. It has case colored receiver & buttplate. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this rifle and indicating shipment on August 5, 1898 to order #625. CONDITION: Very fine to extremely fine. Bbl retains 96-98% strong orig blue turned slightly dull. Magazine tube retains about 95% orig blue turning plum above the forearm. Receiver retains virtually all of its orig case colors, strong & bright on the sides, slightly muted with the bottom having a cleaned patch of rust with some rust spotting on the lower right side of the receiver. Top tang retains about 75% muted case colors turning silver and the bottom tang 25-30% colors turning silver with a couple of small spots of pitting. Buttplate retains about 30-35% muted case colors, mostly on the tang and at the heel with the balance turned silver. Wood is sound with light nicks & scratches and a couple of small bruises and retains about all of its bright orig varnish. Good mechanics, bright shiny bore with a faint ring about 2″ from the muzzle. 4-54912 JR183 (3,000-5,000)
