WALDO PEIRCE (American, 1884-1970) “THE GREENHOUSE”. Unsigned pen and ink watercolor study for the original oil painting of the same title which is in the permanent collection of the Colby College Museum of Art, Waterville, Maine. That painting was used as a postcard by the museum and one is attached to the back. Scene shows several people and children working in a large glass enclosed greenhouse. Housed in a fine carved wood frame with double mattes having a label of the House of Heydenryk. Dated bottom right “5 June 51″. NOTE: Accompanying the work is an appraisal by John W. Peirce dated 1989. SIZE: Sight: 9-1/2″ x 13-1/4”. PROVENANCE: Purchased directly from Waldo Peirce. CONDITION: Very good. 9-97497 (800-1,200)
