*1903 SPRINGFIELD RIFLE. Cal 30-06. SN 816205. 24” bbl dated “5 – 18”. Accompanying the rifle are two documents, one dated April 14, 1931 from the Quartermaster of the Marine Barracks at Pearl Harbor stating that this gun was turned in by a Private Harry E. Davis U.S.M.C. for a new rifle on this date. The second letter being from researcher Frank Mallory of Springfield Research Service Rifle attesting to the first letter. CONDITION: As refinished. Gun is entirely parkerized showing virtually no wear with the exception of the front bbl band and floorplate. Floorplate has orig mottled finish with a small dent. Bore is bright with strong rifling. Sights are orig for the 1918 gun. Wood is a Mark 1 stock with just the faintest of a “S.A.” over “G.A.W.” cartouche. Shows wear and minor nicks but overall in good condition. Hand guard is excellent. Rifle also has the orig WWI sling though is dry and needs some attention. Mechanically sound. 4-57796 BK21 (1,200-2,400)
