RARE EXHIBITION ENGRAVED REMINGTON SECOND MODEL SMOOT REVOLVER. SN 863. Cal. .30. 2-3/4” ribbed oct bbl. All surfaces are covered with engraved vines and flowers against an etched background. It was originally silver-plated and then completely gold washed. Comes with a chamois purse-type holster. An accompanying letter from noted author and researcher Larry Wilson states this was probably built for exhibition purposes at the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition of 1876. CONDITION: Most of the gold wash on the bbl, top strap, and bottom of the frame has been removed due to contact with the holster. Moderate pitting in these areas. Left side of the frame shows little loss of gold, while the right side and rear show mostly tarnished silver-plate. Cylinder has 75% of the gold wash remaining, mixed with moderate pitting. Pearl grips are fine. Mechanically fine. Holster is worn through at the muzzle and butt with heavy staining inside and out. NOTE: A similar example, in much better condition, recently sold at auction for over $40,000. 4-53815 (3,000-5,000)
