THREE MINIATURE PORTRAITS. Second quarter, 19th century for all. 1) An oval bust portrait of a young man on ivory with high collar and black cravat with dark hair, blue eyes and pronounced features. 2) An oval bust portrait on ivory of a younger man with white winged collar shirt, white cravat and stick pin. Mounted in a marbleized or grained frame of the period. The paper backing affixed to the backboard of the frame with illegible script, identifying the sitter. 3) A portrait of a mother and child. The woman in an empire, white lace dress with blue scarf. The portrait appears to be a paint-heightened transfer on porcelain, mounted within an oval gilt metal frame, decorated overall with floral garlands. Attached to the back of the frame backing is a handwritten label, “AFTER PAINTING SIG A. LAUVREU (?)..LADY DOVER”. SIZE: 1) 2-1/4″ h x 1-3/4″ w; 2) 2-1/2″ h x 2″ w; 3) 4″ h x 3-1/4″ w. PROVENANCE: From the private collection of Dorothy-Lee Jones. CONDITION: The first with some dryness to painted surface. The second is very good, frame is fair to good.
