OIL ON CANVAS OF A HUNTER WITH ELK BY HUBERT PATON. Fine oil painting 33-3/8″ x 19″ horizontal image of a young hunter in turn of the century western garb smoking his pipe sitting on a dead bull elk in a mountain woodland scene. Artist signed and dated 1893. The back of the painting bears the inscription in handwritten ink “HIS FIRST ELK/PAINTED BY HUBERT PATON/MEEKER/COLORADO/1893”. This painting is executed in exquisite detail of a fine 6×6 bull elk. The young hunter is wearing a gauntlet and hat, a hunting knife and correct clothing for the period indicated. An outstanding Western hunting scene suitable for anyone’s collection. CONDITION: Excellent with image fine and bright in accurate true colors. There are two small tack holes in the upper corners.
