EARLY 18TH CENTURY SWORD WITH REVOLUTIONARY WAR SERVICE. Dbl. edge blade, 27″ long without ricasso, brass butterfly hand guard with dbl. finger loops and tear drop quillion. Small round bone or ivory spiral fluted grip with large brass ball pommel and dbl. fine brass chain. The handle is inscribed “SERGT. D CARSWELLS HIS SWORD YE 1775”. CONDITION: The blade is a medium to dark patina missing a small part of the tip. The blade is heavily pitted about 3″ from the blade tip with other scattered deep pitting. The brass has an old cleaned patina, the quillion is bent and the handle is intact, missing a small chip at the pommel with a very dark old patina. 4-45450 JL371 (500-800)
