CIVIL WAR ERA NAVAL OFFICERS SWORD. Naval officers sword with 29-3/4″ narrow blade, single unstopped fuller with etched decorations on both sides of Naval symbols and mottos. The left ricasso has the name “S.H. MEYERS/WASHINGTON” and the other side has the name etched in the blade “L.B. FOSTER”. The hand guard has a single knuckle bow with pierced floral decorations and “USN” with a dolphin quillion. The handle is white fish skin with eagle and stars pommel cap. The scabbard is brass and leather with Naval motifs and the initial “L.B.F” engraved on the side of the throat. There is a gold sword knot attached to the knuckle bow. CONDITION: The blade is very good retaining most of its bright polish with scattered light surface rust. The hand guard and pommel cap retain 40-50% gold wash. The fish skin wrap is primarily intact missing most of the twisted wire wrap. Scabbard is fine retaining most of its leather finish with the brass retaining gold wash in the sheltered areas, being a dark mustard patina. 4-45493 JL310 (300-600)
