UNMARKED FLINTLOCK KENTUCKY RIFLE. CAL. about 54. Ohio type rifle with 44-5/8″ oct. bbl, brass front sight with a small fixed rear sight. Stained walnut stock with a spliced replacement about midway down the forestock to the muzzle. It has two faceted brass guides and a faceted nose pipe containing a Hickory ramrod with swelled end. The bottom of the forestock has an integral wooden rail. The buttstock is roach backed with a simple, lightly engraved 2-pc brass patch box. The left side of the stock has a small cheek piece with elliptical lightly engraved brass inlay and a matching small inlay thumb plate. Brass trigger guard and buttplate with faceted tang. The lock is reconverted and probably a replacement marked “RICHARDS & MONTGOMERY”. CONDITION: Good. The bbl retains an even dark brown patina with rust pitting at the breech end. The wood, with the aforementioned splice, has splices before and after the lock plate with repaired cracks in the wrist. Otherwise, is sound and retains most of a refinish. 4-45389 Z253 (1,250-1,750)
