UNMARKED EARLY FULL STOCK KENTUCKY RIFLE. CAL. 34. Beautiful, dainty small bore Kentucky with 44-1/2″, seven-groove oct. bbl with small iron front sight and fixed rear sight. The stock is very nicely grained tiger stripe maple with some applied graining with three brass guides and a silver-plated brass nose pipe. The bbl is secured with three German silver wedges. The stock is slim and trim with a fine drop and is inlaid with a small German silver figure on the left sideplate, a compass rose star on the scalloped cheek piece and a small silver finial atop the 2-pc brass patch box and another matching finial in front of the buttplate tang. There is a German silver shield thumb plate. The trigger guard, with filed decorations, has a silver diamond applique. The lock plate and hammer are lightly engraved and marked “W.S. BOUTON” and it has dbl. set triggers. The brass patch box lid has a long, narrow, silver, oval applied. The front 20″ of the forestock is a spliced replacement. There is a raised, carved fluted rail on the bottom of the forestock for the ramrod, which appears to be orig. with a nickel plated cup tip. There is an area of incised carving with some cross-hatching behind the cheek piece. Below the cheek piece is a small brass plate attached with three screws, possibly a receptacle for a nipple pick. CONDITION: With the aforementioned splice, it is otherwise about fine. The bbl retains a fine dark patina with some scattered pitting. The lock plate and hammer are mostly a silvery brown. The brass is a medium mustard patina and the silver with oxidized spots. The stock has a repaired crack under the action with a small brass inlaid reinforcement.
