MODEL 1817 U.S. FLINTLOCK “COMMON” RIFLE CONTRACT BY JOHNSON. This specimen dated 1823 is the standard “Common Rifle” contract flintlock rifle dated 1823 (last year of production for R. Johnson, total of 5,000 made). CAL. 54 with full-stock rifle with round bbl and three bbl bands. Oval iron patch box, trigger guard, buttplate and furniture. Lock is dated 1823 and marked “R. Johnson” (in arch) with eagle stamp and “Middltn/Conn” below. CONDITION: Excellent. All metal parts are a light gray patina, all markings sharp, bore excellent. The top of the bbl and tang stamped “1812″. Stock is excellent with minor losses to the toe of the stock and few scrapes, bumps and grinds here and there. A very nice condition example of this U.S. rifle in orig. flintlock condition. 4-45427 (3,500-3,800)
