ENFIELD RIFLE MUSKET DATED 1856. CAL. 58. Unmarked Enfield style percussion musket with a 39″ bbl, square base front sight/bayonet lug with 800 meter military sight. The lock plate has only the markings of a crown over “VR” and the date “1856”. The right side of the buttstock carries a cartouche of a circle with a broad arrow and the date “1856”. Three bbl bands with sling swivels and slotted head ramrod. The upper bbl band and sling loop, as well as the sling loop on the trigger and the ramrod, appear to be recent replacements. CONDITION: Fine. The bbl retains a smooth gray-brown patina with heavy pitting over the breech end. The wood is sound and retains most of a light refinish, worn and damaged nipple. 4-45296 JL273 (1,000-1,500)
