HARPER’S FERRY MODEL 1816 CONVERSION MUSKET. CAL. 69. Standard 1816 Model musket with the makers’ name and the date 1837 vertically behind the hammer with a small eagle over “US” in front of the hammer on the lock plate, 42″ bbl with top bayonet lug and front sight on the rear strap of the split front band. Iron mounted with three bands and a tulip head ramrod. The left flat has the inspector’s initials “JAS”. The conversion was accomplished by mounting the nipple at the breech end of the bbl and filling the flash pan cut-out with brass. CONDITION: Fine. The iron retains a dark smoky patina with light pitting around the nipple area. The wood is sound and clean with good lines, a hairline by the rear lock plate screw and retains a fine hand-rubbed patina. The nipple is broken away. 4-44772 JL274 (800-1,500)
