*WINCHESTER EXPERIMENTAL MODEL 70 SINGLE SHOT RIFLE. Cal. 225 Win. This rifle is built on a post-64 special Model 70 action used internally in the Winchester factory for ammunition testing. It is a heavy round receiver with only an ejection port without the usual top and bottom cutouts making it a single shot only receiver. It is fitted with a 23″ stainless steel Bull bbl, 1-1/8″ at the muzzle. It is mounted in a heavy Model 70 target stock with hand stop rail, deep pistol grip and checkered steel buttplate. It has an alloy and steel floorplate and trigger guard. The floorplate serves only to cover the magazine well hole. The bbl and receiver top are mounted with Unertl-style scope blocks. Bbl is marked with Winchester Research Proof Mark and the receiver with factory production proof mark. Winchester logo is on the left side of the receiver with the serial number on the right side. Accompanied by a letter from the former director of marketing at Winchester identifying this rifle and verifying its production. SN 499819. CONDITION: Very good to excellent. Bbl and receiver retain most of their original finish with minor nicks and scratches. The stock is sound and retains virtually all its original varnish. 4-47437 (2,000-5,000)
