*WINCHESTER EXPERIMENTAL OR PROTOTYPE BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Cal. .243. Built on an action that resembles a cross between a post-64 Model 70 and commercial FM Mauser without claw extractor. It has a 22″ tapered round bbl, ramp front sight and folding bbl sight. There is a thumb safety slotted at the right rear of the receiver. It is mounted in a straight grain uncheckered Monte Carlo stock without cheekpiece and with a hard rubber buttplate. The trigger guard is cast alloy with a machined steel floorplate which has a front release and contains what appears to be a three or four round single column detachable magazine. This appears to be an attempt by Winchester to make a low cost competitive bolt action detachable magazine rifle. It was never put into production. The only markings on the rifle are the SN, cal. and Winchester factory proofs. SN EXP.3 CONDITION: Excellent +. Retains virtually all its original factory finish to both metal and wood. Bright shiny bore. 4-46778 JR353 (1,000-5,000)
