VOTIVE STELE OF BODHISATTVA ON STAND.

Ming Period, China. Buddhist figure in blue glaze enamel on a circular plinth with a calligraphic inscription on the back. Inscription written in character style from the East Zhou Period (770 BC-221 BC). We believe a partial translation of the transcription to be “I mourn the death of my beloved (family member)/my heart yearns the cloud palace/order the governor there and…fall asleep (darkness)…dream/study (learn).” Mounted on an oval hardwood stand. SIZE: Figure: 11-3/4″. Overall: 13-3/4″. CONDITION: Very good with slight losses to glaze on sides of stele. Slight fleck to back edge of stele. 9-94374 (1,000-1,200) – Lot 3507
