*DAINTY AND RARE 28 GAUGE MODEL 40E BOXLOCK EJECTOR GAME GUN BY J.P. SAUER.

SN 141541. Cal. 28 ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. 26″ Shoe lump bbls with concave, matted game rib, are engraved “J. P. SAUER & SON” on tops, with steel type around breech ends. Bbl flats are stamped with usual early Sauer markings of crowns, “W”, caveman logos, and “PRUSSIA”. Case hardened, small sized, scallop-backed, boxlock action features non-automatic safety (SAFE engraved), crossbolt third fastener, side clips, and dbl triggers. Action is engraved with especially well rendered large relief scrolling acanthus surrounding game scenes; pair of ducks on left, trio of pheasant on right, and cranes on bottom. “J. P. Sauer & Son” is in scrolled riband on each side. Blued trigger guard has pair of quail on bow, and SN at grip. High quality newly made straight grip buttstock is of well streaked and nicely figured European walnut, and measures 15″ over checkered wood butt. Grip and side panels are finely checkered. Orig splinter ejector forend has inset nicely shaped horn tip, and Deeley release. Bore diameter: left -.554, right – .554. Bore restrictions: left – .030 (full), right – .017 (mod). Wall thickness: left – .026, right – .030. Drop at heel: 2-1/4″, drop at comb: 1-3/8″. Neutral cast. Weight: 5 lbs. 6 oz. LOP: 15″. CONDITION: Very fine, as partially refurbished. Bbls retain nearly all of a fine quality rust re-blue. Action retains most of its orig case hardening color, silvered on bottom from normal hand wear. Newly made buttstock is excellent with a few very light handling marks. Orig forend refinished, checkering lightly worn. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Ejectors are in time.
