NORTHEASTERN AMERICAN INDIAN CARVED WOODEN SPOON WITH “BEAR HEAD” EFFIGY.

This beautiful wooden, possibly maple or butternut, spoon or ladle measures about 20″ overall with large triangular bowl terminates into a carving of what appears to be stylized bear with details for ears, eyes, mouth and nose. Ladle is very fine overall with desirable hand-worn patina. This spoon or ladle probably dates from the early 19th century, but examples are known earlier. PROVENANCE: Northeast Auctions lot 1342 August 6, 2011. From the personal estate collection of John W. Armiger Jr. CONDITION: Very good overall with several bruises, scratches and small blemishes that do not affect the overall aesthetics There’s a lanyard hole irregularly drilled behind animals face. 49055-66 (2,500-3,500) – Lot 3382
