*EXCEPTIONAL PERAZZI SCO ORO SHOTGUN WITH WONDERFUL CLASSICALLY INSPIRED SCENES OF DIANA, THE GODDESS OF THE HUNT AND MAIDENS; GOLD INLAID BY GALEAZZI WITH CASE.

SN 65894. Cal. 12 ga. 3″ Chambers. 29-1/2″ Mono-bloc bbls with broad matted ventilated rib and ventilated side ribs, are ported. Left side of top bbl is marked “Perazzi spa – MADE IN BRESCIA – ITALY”. Bbl flat is stamped with SN 79417. Other proofs are illegible. Coin finished, low profile, OU action with ornamental sideplates has removable trigger group with gold plated internals, and single non-selective trigger. Action is engraved with near full coverage well cut small scroll with bouquet highlights surrounding well rendered flush gold inlaid scenes of Diana, along with her dogs, serving ladies, etc. in various scenes. The work is by A Galeazzi who specialized in scenes of Diana with many examples illustrated in various books on engraving; most notably MODERN FIREARMS ENGRAVINGS by Mario Abbiatico. Many of the details of the engraving on this gun are illustrated in that book, however they are on different guns and in different scenes. The bottom of this gun shows Diana with bow and arrow running through meadow while her greyhound looks on. Right lockplate and rear portion of action show Diana preparing for her bath, with minions in various poses, also at the bath. Greyhound is at left side of scene. This scene is signed “Galeazzi” at center bottom. Right lockplate depicts classic scene of Diana after her bath with servants in attendance, along with two greyhounds. Strikingly marbled and stump figured European walnut extreme pistol grip buttstock measures 14-7/8″ over brown Decelerator pad. Point pattern checkering is at grip. Matching full one piece forend has Perazzi gold crest inlet toward tip, and Deeley type release. Bore diameter: top -.725, bottom – .723. Bore restrictions: screw chokes. Drop at heel: 2-1/4″, drop at comb: 1-3/8″. Cast: approx 1/2″ off. Weight: 8 lbs. 6 oz. LOP: 14-7/8″. Makers green ABS case is lined in multi-colored patterned cloth, and contains green wallet with owners manual and combination lock information. PROVENANCE: Remarkable William Larkin Moore Private Estate Collection of Fine Sporting Arms. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain nearly all of their orig black with some light marks and scuffs. Coin finish of action is still light in color, but beginning to tone, especially at bottom, with some light scratches and a few pings in gold inlay, mostly in central figure on left side. Stocks retain nearly all of what appears to be their orig hand rubbed oil finish, thinning slightly, with some light marks, checkering is lightly worn. Bbls fit well, and lock up tightly. Ejectors are slightly out of time. Trigger works. Case is excellent. An interesting work of art by this highly regarded Italian engraver. 50594-75 MGM53 (25,000-42,500) – Lot 3365
