*CHURCHILL “FIELD MODEL” SIDELOCK EJECTOR TRAP GUN.

SN 3435. (1927) Cal. 12 ga. 32″ Dovetailed bbls are fitted with interchangeable chokes and very high Churchill ventilated rib, and engraved “E. J. Churchill (Gun Makers) Ltd” and “Orange St. Gunworks. Leicester Square London” on tops. Bbl flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 1-1/2 oz of shot and 3″ chambers. SNs are engraved on bottoms of bbls. Case hardened, sidelock action is stocked to the fences, and features non-automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), hidden third fastener, gold band tumbler end cocking indicators, and dbl triggers. Action is engraved with 80% coverage well cut, varying sized scroll with rose bouquet highlights in typical London style. “E. J. Churchill” is on each lockplate. Bottom of action is engraved “Field” “Model”. (The “Field Model” was Churchill’s second quality sidelock gun retailing for 20 guineas less than the “Premiere”.) Blued trigger guard with rose and scroll on bow has SN relief engraved on short tang. Finely marbled and nicely stump figured European walnut “Prince of Wales” round knob grip buttstock measures 14-1/2″ over Silver type pad, and features rounded drop points, point pattern checkering with line borders, and a silver oval on toe line engraved with monogram “BWH”. Matching beavertail ejector forend has Anson release. Bore diameter: left -.726, right – .728. Bore restrictions: screw chokes. Wall thickness: left – .034, right – .025. Drop at heel: 1-7/8″, drop at comb: 1-9/16″. Cast: neutral. Weight: 8 lbs. 11 oz. LOP: 14-1/2″. CONDITION: Excellent, as partially refurbished. Bbls retaining essentially all of a high quality re-black. Action retains approx 40% orig color, lockplates perhaps 80%. Buttstock retains nearly all of a high quality rubbed oil refinish with new pad. Newer beavertail forend retains nearly all of its orig finishes, checkering matches quite well. Bores are excellent.
