TWO FINE MEXICAN WAR ERA SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1842 MUSKETS.

1) SPRINGFIELD 1842 SMOOTH BORE. NSN. Cal. 69 bore. 1) 1846 dated rifled Springfield Model 1842 in standard configuration with 42″ bbl, long range rear sight, matching 1846 bbl date. CONDITION: Very good “as found” condition with dark patina except where protected under bands where metal is still bright. Orig and complete, stock has rounded edges with no discernible cartouche but U.S. surcharged on buttplate. Markings are crisp and discernible with exception of the eagle stamped on lock which is lighty struck. Mechanically sound with well discerned rifling. 2) SPRINGFIELD 1842 RIFLED SIGHTED. NSN. Cal. 69. 2) 1844 dated Springfield musket. Matching lock and bbl dates. This is a very scarce, early Model 1842 in “as found” orig and complete condition. CONDITION: Very good overall. Metal is mottled grey with old cleaning and staining. Markings are crisp and well defined including two well struck inspector’s cartouches. Stock is sound and solid with numerous small dings, dents and scratches and one more recent 3/4″ chip just forward of middle band on right side of channel.
