PAIR OF CAST METAL GATE POST SPREAD-WING EAGLES.

20th century. The outstretched wings with turned heads in opposing stance. The eagles stand on a square mounting plate. SIZE: 21-1/2″ h 50″ w (wingspan) 23″ d. PROVENANCE: From the Harry Z. Isaacs collection at the Historic Long Branch Estate in Virginia. This historic plantation located in Millwood VA was built by Robert Carter Burwell with architectural advice from Benjamin Latrobe, one of the architects of the United States Capitol. These eagles were purchased from the estate where they had been installed by Harry Isaacs as gate post finials.
