UNUSUAL NICKEL PLATED CONFEDERATE LEMAT GRAPESHOT REVOLVER.

SN 1825. Cal. 42/18 Bore. This is a fine orig example of the standard production LeMat grapeshot revolver with the last address associated with Confederate production “SYST. LEMAT BTE S.G.D.G. PARIS”. The revolver has the distinctive LeMat 9-shot cyl. 42 Cal. rifled bbl with smooth bore grapeshot’ 18 ga bbl for firing buckshot. There were about 2000 Paris made LeMat revolvers all made for Confederate service and only a small percentage are found complete, retaining orig loading assemblies. This example appears orig and authentic in every regard with matching SNs & secondary numbers on every part normally numbered including bbl, shotgun bbl, loading arm, removable rammer, plunger, ramrod screw, frame, trigger, hammer, cyl, frame latch, grips, grip screw and no doubt other internal parts if gun had been further disassembled. CONDITION: Very good to fine overall as nickel plated at some point after manufacture. Markings are all discernible, though some pitting in bbl address as can be seen in photos. SNs all crisp and well discerned. Mechanically fine with well discerned rifling in bore. The hard metal plating on this gun which is seen occasionally on late production 2nd Models is sometimes thought to be “tin” and plated for naval service, though there is no documentation. 51787-5 JS (12,000-15,000) – Lot 3231
