PRUSSIAN GUARD’S TRAIN BATTALION RESERVE OFFICER’S HELMET MODEL 1897.

Black lacquered helmet body with gilded brass trim. Helmet body has excellent form and firm stitching. No extra holes in helmet body. Interior has sweat leather and silk head liner. Inner visors colored. Frontplate is the Prussian Guard’s eagle without banner. On eagle’s breast is the silver and enamel Prussian star of the Black Eagle Order. Below star is a silver reserve cross. Tall gold spike held on body with star retainers. Rounded chinscales on rosettes. Officer’s Reichs and Prussian cockades. PROVENANCE: Certificate of Authenticity from Helmut Weitze; The Doug Buhler Collection of Rare and Spectacular German Imperial Headgear and Pickelhauben. CONDITION: Very good plus overall. Exterior bell finish slightly matte due to age. Exterior front and back visors pebbled with age. Eagle retains 90% of fire gilding. Interior shows minimal wear. 51586-26 RT (4,500-6,000) – Lot 3182
