PRUSSIA 7TH GRENADIER REGIMENT KOENIG WILHELM I (2ND WEST PRUSSIAN) OFFICER’S HELMET MODEL 1897.

Elegant black fiber helmet body with fire gilded metal trim. Black fiber body is size 57 and has excellent form and firm stitching. Exterior finish in near mint condition. Interior sweat leather and silk headliner. Visors colored. Helmet body has one set of extra holes approx. 5mm wider than holes used for retention of frontplate. Frontplate is the wide winged Grenadier Eagle with added banner “22 Marz 1797” on eagle’s breast. Eagle has the unusual square sword hilt instead of the Grenadier S-type hilt. Beautifully fine fire gilding. Tall spike with star retainers. Flat chinscales with the special rosettes with crown and “FWR”. PROVENANCE: Certificate of Authenticity from Helmut Weitze; The Doug Buhler Collection of Rare and Spectacular German Imperial Headgear and Pickelhauben. CONDITION: Overall excellent plus inside and out. Interior shows minor wear and tears in silk. 51586-29 RT (5,000-6,000) – Lot 3176
