DIMINUTIVE EDWARDIAN MAHOGANY MARQUETRY DISPLAY CABINET. Late 19th century, England. The molded rectangular cornice above the conforming frieze with ribbon-tied foliate and floral branches above the astragal glazed door opening to an interior fitted with mirror back and two plate glass fixed shelves, the upper cabinet sides also astragal sides. The lower case fitted with a door with marquetry panel of ribbon-tied bellflower wreath with trailing vinery centering an inset cabinet plate decorated with a maiden and cherub painting the figure of a soldier on pedestal in a landscape. The plate marked in underglaze iron red “SCULPTURE/After Angelica Kauffman“. The center of the plate impressed with Mintons mark beneath the glaze, additionally with retailer’s mark “MESSRS. DANIELL 129 NEW BOND ST LONDON” The case sides with solid panels. The whole on molded plinth raised on square tapered legs. SIZE: 64-1/4″ h x 24-1/2″ w 14-1/4″ d.
