AMAZINGLY RARE AND INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT EARLY STEIFF BEAR WITH ORIGINAL ELEPHANT BUTTON.
An extremely early version of Steiff’s original disc jointed bear made from lovely long apricot mohair, which has faded gently overall but darkened slightly at the joints. Bear has typical turn of last century proportions including extremely long arms, large spoon shaped, long narrow feet and a pronounced back hump. Hard and soft stuffed. Five hand-embroidered black claws on each paw. Teddy’s face is detailed with black shoebutton eyes and a small black hand-embroidered nose and mouth. With most desirable and highly sought after “Elephant” button, the first button Steiff used to brand their products. SIZE: Overall 20″ t (50cm). Sitting 13″ t (33cm).
