PRECIOUS 1930s ERA STEIFF CAT ON RED WOODEN WHEELS.

Cat is standing and unjointed. Made from white and gray mohair which has been spotted with black highlights. Face is detailed with green and black glass pupil eyes, a pink hand-embroidered nose & mouth and clear monofilament whiskers. The cat has red hand-embroidered claws and wears her original bell and bow. She also retains her original Steiff button. Cat rides upon four red wooden eccentric wheels giving her a lifelike walking appearance as she is pulled along. Steiff has been making items on eccentric wheels since the early 1900s when they mistakenly miss-drilled the axles for pull toys, therefore inventing this distinctive feature. This item was produced in 15 & 18cm from 1934-1937 overall and is very seldom seen on the secondary market. SIZE: 6-1/2″ t (16cm). PROVENANCE: Chuck & Cathy Steffes Collection. CONDITION: Wheels with some paint loss. Otherwise very good. 1-13773 (1,000-2,000) – Lot 3043
