1930s ERA STEIFF MOHAIR BEGGING RABBIT WITH BUTTON AND HEAD TURNS TAIL MECHANISM.

Rabbit is begging and made from tan mohair that has been highlighted with brown and black airbrushing. He is solidly stuffed and does not have claws. His face is detailed with black and brown glass pupil eyes, a red hand-embroidered nose and mouth, and clear monofilament whiskers. This darling handful also has a surprise-he is a tail moves head model-meaning that when his little mohair tail is twisted left or right, so does his head. This technology was part of Steiff’s continuous innovation process designed to give their products movement and life and was also used on certain select dogs and cats of the same general era. This tail moves head rabbit was produced in six sizes ranging from 11 to 36cm from 1931 through 1938. Rabbit retains his long trailing “F” button and traces of his red ear tag as his Steiff IDs. SIZE: Overall 6″ t (15cm). PROVENANCE: Chuck & Cathy Steffes Collection. CONDITION: Slight wear and playwear on tail and surrounding areas, otherwise very good. 1-13878 (1,200-1,500) – Lot 3040
