*COLT 1911 RAF (ROYAL AIR FORCE) MARKED PISTOL IN ORIGINAL .455 CALIBER.

SN 106521. Cal. 455 Webley. Right side of slide is marked “Colt Automatic Calibre 455”, top of slide British proofed with Crown/BW, left side of slide has standard Colt patent markings and Rampant Colt, rear left slide shows crossed scepters British marking, receiver marked “R.A.F.” and crossed scepters in front of slide stop, over crossed scepters with broad arrow property mark, upper left trigger guard bow marked with “VP”, lower left trigger guard bow marked with “98” above Crown/G2A over mag catch release. Right side of receiver marked “Government Model” over “W106521” over Crown/BV over “Made in U.S.A.”, to the left of slide stop hole marked “Not English Make”, upper right trigger guard bow marked Crown/A1E. Front sight is thin flat sided Colt-type, rear sight is standard small u notched. Bbl marking “W” in front of lug, left lug marked “H20”, visible through ejection port are three normal British proof marks. Mag is standard two-toned US G.I. pinned base with upper tongue marked “B” (for Barnes). PROVENANCE: The Frank H. Wheaton, III Collection. CONDITION: Entire pistol is refinished with war-time blue. Mainspring housing loop has added iron ring apparently for lanyard. The majority of the reapplied finish remains with only high edges and front of muzzle showing white metal. Bbl shows moderate wear to outer surfaces, bore is good with mostly bright finish only minor frosting between the lands. The double diamond stock left is very good, stock right shows moderate wear, screws in very good condition but missing most of the finish.
