ROOKWOOD ART POTTERY FAIENCE WATER FOUNTAIN.

The sculptured pottery fountain marked on the inside of the base “Rookwood Faience 1281″. The number 1281 was a number utilized for architectural shapes. The fountain in the form of a standing nude boy standing on a sphere wrapped with a wave which cradles his legs. The fountain nozzle protrudes from him upturned mouth. Green matte finish which has weathered over time because of outdoor use. This could be a stand along fountain or could have been used as a side fountain on a large circular fountain as illustrated on page 102 in the Book of Rookwood Pottery by Peck. SIZE: 30-1/2″ h, Base 10″ x 10”. CONDITION: One tip of wave missing, the base having edge chipping, uneven finish due to outdoor use. 50567-16 (1,500-2,500) – Lot 3025
