WALTER H. DURFEE MAHOGANY PATENT TIMEPIECE OR BANJO CLOCK.

Last quarter 19th century, Providence RI. The mahogany case surmounted with carved and gilt composition displayed eagle finial. The iron enameled dial with Roman numeral chapter ring and inscribed “Shreve, Crump & Low Co., Boston” with barbed hands. The throat glass with gold foliate sprays centering a maroon panel above a blue pennant inscribed “Shreve, Crump & Low Co.” above the box base with eglomise panel depicting the battle between the Constitution and Guerriere and so labeled. The case with brass side arms and presentation bracket. The original eight day brass movement with single bridge Geneve stop and dead beat escapement attached with three bolts maintaining power. Movement engraved “Walter H. Durfee, Providence” and marked “6153”. Offered with weight, pendulum and key. SIZE: 42″ h x 10-1/2″ w. CONDITION: Case clean with minor lifting of crossbanded veneer.
