EXTREMELY RARE VERY LARGE SCAGEL CAMP KNIFE WITH SHEATH.

Early Scagel camp knife with 9″ heavy clip point blade that has 3″ back grind, swamped spine with curved cutting edge and a large notch at the ricasso. Blade is 2-1/4″ wide x 7-3/2″ thick at the ricasso. Left side of blade has Mr. Scagel’s trademark Kriss stamp. Handguard is a long brass oval, flat on the bottom, scalloped on the top edge with a finger recess near the tip. Handle is stacked leather with red synthetic, aluminum and brass spacers. Pommel is rough stag secured with two brass pins. Accompanied by its early style dark brown leather sheath that is hand stitched and has brass rivets at the top and toe. The thumb strap appears to be orig and has been relocated and secured with a copper harness rivet. This earlier style sheath is simply a flat backing piece with a formed face stitched to the backing. Later sheaths for Mr. Scagel’s camp knives had a different facing that was more raised and smaller than the backing. CONDITION: Very good. Blade shows overall surface etching with very fine pin prick pitting. Leather handle washers have slightly shrunk and show old hand wear. Stag pommel shows moderate to heavy hand wear with a wonderful hand worn patina. Sheath is sound with lightly crackled surface on the face showing moderate to heavy wear but is completely intact. 51473-6 JRL (7,500-9,500) – Lot 2305
