RARE CIVIL WAR 5-COLOR RECRUITING POSTER FOR THE SPRAGUE LIGHT CAVALRY 16TH NEW YORK.

This is one of the rarest and largest of all Civil War broadside sheets. This recruiting poster with a 27″ x 11″ vignette of gallant Union Cavalry with an unfurled American Flag charging into the fire of a Confederate Battery with their “Stars and Bars” raised. Text is in red and blue, the vignette is red, blue, black, yellow and green. Sprague Light Cavalry became part of the 16th New York Cavalry forming just in time for the Gettysburg campaign having total losses during the war of 140 men mostly due to disease. SIZE: 41-1/2″ x 29-1/2″. PROVENANCE: Norm Flayderman Estate Collection. CONDITION: Fair-good overall, as mounted on linen. Cracks, reductions and small paper losses at folds.
