“SONS OF THE SIRES OF ’76” MASSACHUSETTS CIVIL WAR RECRUITING POSTER.

This large Broadsided is on unusual peach colored paper with black print overlay. Having a 7″ x 6″ vignette of a running Zouave carrying his rifle with bayonet attached, a dagger in his sash. This poster is advertising for soldiers for at least 6 specific regiments stating if you enlist in those specific regiments bounties will be paid and provision for your family will be paid. Interesting to note the call for German and Irish troops “IRISHMEN OF MASSACHUSETTS you have two Regiments to choose from, the 28th, Col. THOMAS S. MURPHY, and the 28th, Col, MATTHEW MURPHY.” “GERMANS OF MASSACHUSETTS, as you fought for the ‘Faderland,’ fight now for your Adopted Country. Remember FRANZ SIGEL.” SIZE: 27″ x 21-1/2″. PROVENANCE: Norm Flayderman Estate Collection. CONDITION: Overall very good however there is a 10″ x 1-1/2″ sliver missing from the upper right hand corner that affects several letters of text on right side with one letter totally missing (the last “N” in CANNON).
