JOHN STOCKTON APPOINTMENT WITH GEORGE WASHINGTON’S SIGNATURE AND RELATED EPHEMERA LOT.

18th to 20th century, United States. Featuring a document with attached U.S. seal “John Stockton of Delaware” appointing him Commissioner of Loans for the United States in the state of Delaware. Bearing the signatures of G. Washington (President) and Edm. Randolph (Secretary of State). Together with a second letter requesting the services of John Stockton as Commissioner of Loans, signed by Edm. Randolph (Secretary of State) dated June 26, 1795. Also with a finely rendered late 20th century oil on canvas portrait of George Washington, signed “Carl Abken” housed in wide gilt frame, and with an early steel engraving featuring the unfinished portrait of George Washington by Gilbert Stewart. SIZE: 1) 13-1/2″ x 14-1/2″ Overall: 22″ x 22-1/4″. 2) 9-1/2″ x 7-1/2″ Overall: 10-1/2″ x 8-1/2″. 3) 20″ x 16″ Overall: 27-1/2″ x 24″. 4) Overall 15″ x 12″. CONDITION: 1) Large document- very good, fold lines and some foxing apparent, appears to be written on vellum. Not examined outside of frame. 2) Small document- very minor foxing and folds.
