1) Large folio print of Portland, Maine, after a painting by J.W. Hill. Printed by Endicott & Co., N.Y., also Chas. Parsons Lithograph, N.Y. The black and white lithograph shows the launching of a ship in the foreground looking across Portland harbor with many ships, including the side wheeler “Daniel Webster”. The city of Portland is seen beyond with its many buildings and church spires. Housed in what may be its original decorated wood frame behind glass. 2) View of Portland, ME. taken from Cape Elizabeth before the great conflagration of July 4th 1866. The lithograph by J. Mayer & Co., Boston, after a photograph by Edward F. Smith. Published by B.B. Russell & Co., Boston & John Hankerson, Portland. Housed in an antique gilt frame behind glass. SIZE: 1) Sight 27-1/4″ x 43-1/2″. Overall 32″ x 48″. 2) Sight 14-1/2″ x 20-1/4″. Overall 16-1/2″ X 22-1/2″. PROVENANCE: Maralyn Young estate, Arundel/Falmouth Maine, being sold unreserved. CONDITION: 1) There is a repaired tear from the bottom margin going up into the water and going along the shoreline, all over dark toning and foxing, one area at top right margin repaired. 2) Vertical toning line at center, water stain to lower left, otherwise good. 51412-40 (1,000-2,000) – Lot 2245
