FINE CLASSICAL CARVED MAHOGANY WORK TABLE.

1st quarter 19th century, New York. In the manner of Duncan Phyfe. The rectangular hinged top with demilune ends, opening to an interior fitted with baise-lined hinged writing surface flanked by astragal ends fitted with demilune compartmented trays above a central drawer with lion mask cast-brass drawer pulls over a tambour door opening to an interior fitted with a bank of 2 sliding trays. The rear of the table mimics the front with simulated drawer above a reeded panel. the whole supported on four ring-and baluster-turned collonettes joined to a medial shelf with in curved sides raised on acanthus carved legs terminating in distinct paw feet fitted with brass casters. PROVENANCE: From a private Maine home. A gift to the current owners’ grandmother from her husband. Lot is accompanied by a copy of a detailed inventory of what conservation was done to the piece several years ago. Together with a period photo showing the table in its original location within the family home in Ohio. CONDITION: Fully conserved and re-polished per listing. Conservation limited to veneer and tambour work, shrinkage crack repair etc. Structurally sound with fine color and patina. 9-96834 (4,000-6,000) – Lot 2237
